Autobiography
My name is Olavee Williams, founder of Ray of Hope, Inc. Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I was born in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and spent most of my childhood in Dudley, North Carolina. I graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1994, and also received my Bachelor’s in Special Education from East Carolina University. Upon completion of my degree, I began working for the Wayne County Public School system. During this time, I created an after-school program at one of the middle schools in Dudley. I started the program because I wanted to reach out to the students who were at-risk of failing in school. This program was ran for three years and it was a great success. I received the Brogden Middle School's Volunteer of the Year Award and Wayne County's T.E.P Volunteer of the Year Award in the same year
For the past 12 years, I have worked a lot with special needs children. Most of the work I have done has been in the group home or school setting. Working with the children, one thing that I learned was that they were very enthralled and eager to learn. This experience triggered my interest in Special Education.
Teaching Philosophy
In my several years of experience in working with children one thing that I have learned is that all children can learn, no matter what level they are on.
It takes an exceptional individual to bring out the good in children. Knowing your students and forming a good relationship with them is the first step of successful education. From past experiences, I believe that teachers should be compassionate and concerned for the child. As a result of those experiences, I want to make sure that I can have a relatable curriculum for all my students. For this reason I believe in utilizing flexible, knowledgeable, and well-experienced staff, I think that this will play a big part in their learning process.
By building positive relationships with each child I am able to work hard and create a well-rounded individual!
In addition to working on behaviors, I am excited about the opportunity to creatively assist children in accessing the curriculum they are responsible for at grade level. I hope that I can be a part of enhancing the environment to create an inclusive setting. I feel that all children should be given the opportunity to learn together. I want to be one that helps make that happen.
“Where there is Life, there is Hope.” I have found this to be true. I want to give this message of hope to others.
